Shasta Regional ranked 100 Top Hospital in U.S.

Shasta Regional Medical Center was recently named one of the nation's 100 hospitals in the nation by Truven Health Analytics, based on quality of care and patient satisfaction. Truven Health Analytics, formerly Thomson Reuters, is a leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of health care.

"We are extraordinarily pleased to have received this prestigious national honor," said Randall Hempling, Shasta Regional's CEO. "This award reflects the hard work, dedication and excellent patient care that our physicians, nurses and staff provide."

In the past year, Shasta Regional has received numerous accolades for delivering quality health care. In September 2012, Shasta Regional was named as one of the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals in the U.S. for superior inpatient performance in cardiovascular services, again by Truven Health Analytics. That same month, The Joint Commission recognized Shasta Regional as one of the nation's top performers in quality and safety. Shasta Regional was the only hospital in the north state to receive this distinction and one of only 244 U.S. hospitals that achieved the award two years in a row. Then in June and again in November 2012, Shasta Regional garnered an "A" for Patient Safety by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit organization run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits.

The Truven Health Analytics 100 Top Hospitals study evaluates performance in 10 areas: mortality; medical complications; patient safety; average patient stay; expenses; profitability; patient satisfaction; adherence to clinical standards of care; post-discharge mortality; and readmission rates for heart attack, heart failure, and pneumonia. The study has been conducted annually since 1993.

Only 11 California community hospitals made the 100 Top list, eight of which were from Prime Healthcare Services — the parent company of Shasta Regional. Prime Healthcare hospitals have earned this recognition 21 times.

"Prime Healthcare hospitals are committed to quality patient care, and this unbiased and peer-reviewed study recognizes that effort," said Prem Reddy, MD, FACC, FCCP, Chairman, President and CEO of Prime Healthcare Services. "I congratulate these hospitals for their deep devotion to the highest standards of quality care in the country. Our goal at every Prime Healthcare hospital across the nation is to achieve this excellence."
